2024 Cubs Heroes and Goats: Game 26

I’m ready to combine my repetitive thoughts from last year and this year into one thought. Last year, I implored the Cubs to “get greedy.” Any they climbed into contention by doing just that. This year, I’ve applauded them for being relentless on several occasions. Right now, we are experiencing relentless greed. Ridiculously, if the Cubs split their remaining 136 games, they’d finish with 85 wins. They won 83 last year and the NL champion Diamondbacks won 84.

Obviously, you can’t just punch your ticket and lock in .500 over a 136-game stretch. There seems to be at least one team every year that streaks out to a hot start and then stalls and finish way off of the pace.
